Installing ORACLE products on windows is a little bit tricky and buggy. In contrast to installing the same products on various distributions of UNIX or LINUX which run smoothly in most of the cases. From my experience, there are two issues in WINDOWS that ORACLE (or MICROSOFT) should take care about. The locking mechanism in windows is more greedy and strict than what is in other operating systems. The second thing, the registry entries in windows keep cause issues because (Deinstall/Delete/Universal installer) in ORACLE products don’t clear them entirely.

On the Select Installation Type screen, select all the components under Java EE Installation, that is, Java EE Agent, ODI Console, and Public Web Service. On the Select Installation Type screen, if you also choose to install ODI Studio, then you must also select the ODI SDK option. Here, I will show how to install OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 11g) in windows 10 pro.

Software required:

1) I didn’t check the ORACLE website for the databases compatibility and I write based on my experience. OBIEE 11g is not working on MYSQL (MYSQL 5.5 can be used as a METADATA services repository only, but not for business intelligence platform, newer versions are not compatible at ALL due to change in querying the global variables). POSTGERSQL is not supported as well. I don’t check SQL server or DB2. My advice is to stick with ORACLE database to get all features in the OBIEE work as expected. I have Oracle 12c EE installed on my PC with a pluggable database called (PDBORCL).

2) Repository creation universal (RCU). This software will create the database structure required to run various ORACLE products and OBIEE is one of them

Again, I didn’t check the ORACLE website. But with ORACLE database EE and OBIEE 11g (it will Install WEBLOGIC application server) on the same PC, 8GB of RAM won’t work and you need to add more RAM. I have added 8GB and it works fine. I have INTEL i5 4^th Edition processor with 256GB of SSD (Solid State Desk). All this run-on DELL Latitude EZ7440.

1) Installation of Repository: you need to download the universal repository. Then un-compress it. It is preferable to un-compress it to the ORACLE_BASE directory

2) Run the rcu.bat in the folder %ORACLE_BASE%rcuHomeBIN. And follow the steps.

3) Download the OBIEE for windows 64bit architecture. Un-compress the five zipped files into a same directory. Go to the DISK1 folder and run the setup.exe

5) After the last step finished, go to this directory in the installation folder

ORACLE_MIDDLEWARE_HOME_LOCATIONwlserver_10.3commonwlstmodules, open the jar file jython-modules.jar using 7zip or WINRAR. In the lib directory, there is a python script file called javashell.py. extract it and open it using any text editor ( TEXTPAD/NOTEPAD++/notepad,etc…) . find the variable _osTypeMap and add the WINDOWS 10 if it is missing. Add the modified file to the same jar file in the same location ( overwrite the existing one). I have changed the file because the installation program depends on this variable to decide if WINDOWS configuration steps will be used or a UNIX/LINUX distribution.
